What is prenatal testing?
Prenatal testing is the general name given to the practices performed for the screening of the foetus for certain genetic diseases during pregnancy. Different prenatal diagnostic techniques are available according to the gestational week and the reason why it is being performed. Until recently, an invasive intervention was necessary to perform these tests. However, thanks to technological advances, it is now possible to screen the foetus for certain genetic diseases from a blood sample collected from the mother-to-be.
