My son, Kuzey Işık
My son, Kuzey Işık

My son has finally fallen asleep and now I have time to write down my story for you. Though it ended happily, it is a very distressing story. The reason why I want to relate it is to help you understand that these things are not easy at all. However, believe me that it is worth everything, as are all happy endings.

For seven years we sought the ability to have a baby. Our story started outside Istanbul. I think I was examined by all the gynecologists around Bodrum and Fethiye. Afterwards we moved to Istanbul, where we tried insemination first and then IVF. At the end of this period full of failures, we became acquainted with Bahçeci Clinic. At first glance, Dr. Mustafa Bahçeci told me the reason for our condition and said, “If you do not undergo a laparoscopy, your attempts will fail.” We trusted him and I underwent the laparoscopy. Three months later, I got pregnant on our first attempt with Bahçeci Clinic. What they said turned out to be true. We were the happiest people in the world!

At this stage, our doctor, Bora Cengiz, got involved. He was not only good at follow-up, but he also treated us as if he were our good friend and psychologist. I experienced bleeding throughout the pregnancy. Dr. Bora Cengiz told us that it happens in some patients and that the pregnancy would continue under observation. It was obviously a sign but there was nothing we could do. I was undergoing frequent ultrasound checks. My husband and I continued to give each other hope. At five and a half months, fluid started to leak through the gestational sac. Everything happened within a single day. It was impossible to stop the leakage. All hopes turned into devastation in under a minute. We continued our normal routine for fifteen days. I was drinking four liters of water a day. However, it did not work and I had to have an abortion while the baby was still alive. What’s more, the bleeding did not stop either. I stayed in the hospital for three days. My bladder almost burst because I was unable to urinate after the anesthesia. I would not wish such a day on anybody. Dying probably would have been easier.

After this heavy trauma and physical devastation, we decided to wait a year.

At the end of this period, we went to the Bahçeci Clinic for another chance. After the transfer and a waiting period of fifteen hard days, the test result was 1408. It was an excellent value. However, our previous experience kept us from being happy. We were asking ourselves many questions: What would happen this time? Would we see it through to the end? At the end of the second month, I experienced heavy bleeding. Fearing that we had lost our baby again, I called Dr. Bora Cengiz. He wanted me to get an ultrasound immediately. We did what he said but we did not have any hope. The baby was alive and in its place. A new hope and a new fear… In the third month, Dr. Bora Cengiz wanted to eliminate any risk by sewing the uterus. My uterus was sewed by a minor operation in the Umut IVF Center of Bahçeci Clinic, in Kosuyolu.

I had to lie down for the rest of the nine-month period. Finally, I had a healthy son weighing 3.6 kilos. Our hardships finally ended.

This story is actually not different from what most of you are going through. Who knows what you are currently putting up with? But never give up! Dr. Bora Cengiz says, “Nobody has ever gone through what three of my patients did.” I am one of these three patients. Do not give up. Believe me, the end is excellent. Go to the right address. Do not remain at the mercy of the wrong people for years as we did. Bahçeci Clinic and its team are the right address.

I would like to take this occasion to thank Bahçeci Clinic, Dr. Bora Cengiz, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Bahçeci and the entire team. I also wish you all success, strength and energy.

Mine YILMAZ, with my son, Kuzey Işık – 24 August 2010
